I read a comment somewhere, maybe it was on the actual post about the fact that wearing the armbands showed a bit of disrespect for the decision, and apparently they were right.

I'm not a big fan of the way they did the protest...it should have been a lot more behind the scenes...but...

When nothing happens to players like Heaslip hitting from the side and getting a penalty against him after his cleaning hit on Ralepele on Saturday not only 7days later...I do feel the Bok players concern...how else but vitimised must they feel...???

Botha wasn't even penalised for the offence on the field with the ref right there watching it all...take a hit like Adam Thomson against France 3weeks ago...he was penalised by the ref there and then for hitting the ruck incorrectly but nothing further happened...so...

Aagain how else but being victimised should Bakkies and the Boks feel for an arguably even worse offence going unsited after the game for Thomson and Heaslip which were both penalised as foul play by the referee on the day...???

I agree Durrie. the citing system is a farce, way too inconsistent and arbitrary. In my opinion it needs to be centralised, with set bans for set offences. None of this sliding scale nonsense, and the appeal system also needs to be reduced.

The Boks should feel aggrieved about Botha's ban, but the more worrying aspect is the fact that Burger only received 8 weeks for an eye gouging incident described as 'intentional' when the minimum requirement is 6 months. How aggrieved do you think players like Parisee and Neil Bets, with much cleaner records, feel for getting the same and longer bans for 'accidental' offences?

The right to appeal is a necessity but I agree the penalties should be standardised…maybe lesser for accidental rulings than intentional but still standardised.

Back to the protest however…

I haven’t heard anything more about the IRB having a fanny wobble over the protest and wanting to take the Boks to a disciplinary hearing…have you…?

I know I’m biased as a Bok fan but it just stinks to high bloody heaven man. Take the John Smit and Brad Thorn incident last year…never in a million years would a Bok player have got away with that…and what is worse is that Dickenson said he didn’t see the incident…which was just a blatant lie when you watch the replay…

Add that to the treatment Burger got in the RWC07 in a plainly clear contest for the ball against Samoa and the Boks are understandably feeling victimised…especially when Lima made high hits like he did in the same game and got nothing but a pat on the back for being “the chiropractor”…???

smit pissed thorn off - he shouldn't have messed with the big fella, who is usually known as a really quiet person

but anyway, sport is most likely to be unfair at some stage with the refferee and the citing commitee... bakkies got two weeks, maybe undeservingly, but burger got eight weeks for what was about seven (or even more?) months for neil best?

i'm kind of upset to see that this tour is over, now i have to wait another 4 years to genuinely root for players that i normally think are wankers. but that is the beauty of the lions tour you find yourself rooting for guys you normally hate. before this i didn't necessarily hate jamie roberts but i didn't like him, but now i think hes awesome and if it was just wales v sa and he played the same i probably wouldn't have thought that way. im sure all of the lions supporters found themselves rooting for guy they normally hate.

The Boks' players and management have been found guilty of "bringing the game into disrepute" by an independent committee. SARU got a 10,000 pound fine. Each player who wore an armband got 200, except John Smit who got 1000.

Apparently the IRB is quite unhappy with the punishment. I don't think I am. I feel like the Boks got so much grief over this from the media that anything else is sort of ancillary. It doesn't really strike me as something that's likely to be repeated anyway.

WTF......Who is this "independant commitee" actually representing if not the IRB?

And...

What powers can or do they actually have if not the IRB...???

Sounds like a whole lot of very hot air to me...why does John Smit get 5x the punishment of his fellow players? Honestly I can't believe a word of this...who are these jokers and where does the fine money go...???
