Fourie had a great season, but I don't think it was better than BOD's; a Grand Slam, a Heineken Cup, and a big Lions tour. Then again, Fourie had a Tri Nations and Lions series titles, but mostly as a second choice. Nope, much as I'm an admirerer of Fourie, it's the Irishman for me.

I don't think Steyn played consistently enough in one position to merit a place in the end of year team. It was crazy that Frans was included ahead of Morne on the IRB Player of the Year list anyway

Not a single french!!! Not even on the bench!!!

Ok 2009 was defo not the best year but i'd still have put Harinordoquy on best 8. The guy is a solid, reliable, machine.

Not totally, but I'd at least argue that Carter still outplayed Giteau (especially overall), Castrogiovanni was (apparently) scrumming illegally so I don't know how saying he destroyed the ABs can be accepted. As well as Read playing well and Thorn helping out and doing their best in a less-than-top ABs team (until the end of the year).

To only have Sivivatu barely make the team when the only bad mark on the year was the Saffa losses is a bit much.

I agree. To have Paul O'Connell is a bit of a joke too. If he's not going to be the leader and captain, get rid of him. I'm not sure about Jamie Roberts either, although him & BOD did make a decent pairing for the B&I Lions, but iirc, he didn't even play in the Test they won.

I also think Rocky Elsom is completely overrated.

I still can't get over the lack of Dusatoir. For me, he was the stand-out back-row of the year, along with Brussouw. I too think Elsom is over-rated.

Who won the IRB try of the year, btw? Surely Heymans vs the Abs?
